Mr. Daulet Turlykhanov: Wrestling in Asia is progressing, we have an excellent reserve of young athletes

Mr. Daulet Turlykhanov, President of the United World Wrestling  Asia congratulates wrestlers of the Asian continent on their successful performance at the U23 World Championship in Budapest.

"I am proud  to see the successful performance of Asian wrestlers at the last U23 World Championship in Budapest.

In total, there are 184 athletes from 13 countries of the Asian continent took part at this championship. They won 17 gold, 13 silver and 19 bronze medals. 

We particularly excelled in women's wrestling

Japanese women’s wrestling team set a record by winning gold medals in seven weight categories, in addition, they were awarded  with two silver and one bronze medals. Athletes from the People's Republic of China won two gold, 2 silver and one bronze medals. Athletes of Mongolia and India also received silver medals, and bronze medals in the treasury of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and what is especially pleasant, Chinese Taipei.

For the men’s competition - team of the Islamic Republic of Iran traditionally showed successful performance. They excelled in the team standings in Greco-Roman wrestling (3 gold and 3 bronze medals). And in freestyle wrestling, only 6 points were lost to the Russian national team (three golds, 1 silver and 2 bronzes). For the first time, a gold medal won by Kyrgyz athlete Ulukbek Zholdoshbekov.

The results of the tournament indicate that wrestling in Asia is progressing, we have an excellent reserve of young athletes and I am confident that we have the right to expect the highest achievements in the nearest future.
