Annual meeting of the United World Wrestling Asian Continental Council was held in the capital of Kyrgyzstan

  On the eve of the Asian Championships in Greco-Roman, Freestyle and Women's wrestling, an annual meeting of the United World Wrestling Asian Continental Council (UWW-Asia) was held in Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan) on February 26.

Session was opened by President Asian Council of the United World Wrestling Daulet Turlykhanov, Director of the State Agency for Youth Affairs, Physical Culture and Sports of the Kyrgyz Republic Kanat Amankulov and Vice President of Wrestling Federation of the Kyrgyz Republic Melis Turganbaev.

Meeting was attended by the Vice President of the United World Wrestling (UWW) Akhroldjan Ruziev (Uzbekistan); UWW Bureau members: Ik Jong Kim (Korea), Zamel Sayyaf Al Shahrani (Qatar); Executive Committee of UWW-Asia: Honorary President Dr. Kim Chang Kew (Korea), Vice President Brijbushan Singh (India), Secretary-General Hamid Banitamim (Iran); Executive committee members: Hiroaki Tsukamoto (Japan), Kittiposh Suchantabutr (Thailand), Kenneth Lee (Korea), Zhang Ye (China) and representatives of the Wrestling Federations of 20 Asian countries: China, India, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Mongolia, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Chinese Taipei, Tajikistan, Thailand, Uzbekistan.

Within the framework of this congress, President of UWW-Asia – Daulet Turlykhanov, provided the Council members with a report on the work accomplished in 2017 and shared further plans in more detail.

The main task of UWW-Asia Council were the development of measures for  effective implementation of UWW policy for development of mass wrestling by Asian continent, strengthening of National Federations, upgrading of qualifications of Asian athletes and coaches, specialists, increasing the mass character and popularizing the types of wrestling.

President of Asian Council United World Wrestling particularly noted that the promotion and development of wrestling on Asian continent depends on strong and energetic activity of National Federations. One of the goals of UWW is to provide the National Federations with the skills and knowledge to further develop wrestling in their region in a sustainable, structured, progressive and professional manner.

D. Turlykhanov emphasized that the implementation of any programs, first of all requires financial provision. In this regard, measures are being taken to attract sponsors capable of providing one-time and regular technical and financial support. One of the significant actions in the development of the wrestling in the countries of Asia is the creation of assistance program for developing countries in Asia.

At the end, President of UWW-Asia Daulet Turlykhanov noted with satisfaction that Kyrgyzstan is a country with rich traditions, great experience in holding international tournaments. Technical delegates confirmed the preparedness of Wrestling Federation of the Kyrgyz Republic at a high organizational level (meetings, seeing off, accommodation, meals and competitions).

In his turn, Vice-President of the Kyrgyz Wrestling Federation Melis Turganbaev expressed his gratitude for the confidence to hold such a large-scale sporting event in Kyrgyzstan.

Kanat Amankulov, Director of the State Agency for Youth Affairs, Physical Culture and Sports, thanked the United World Wrestling for supporting to holding of the Asian Championships in Kyrgyzstan, noting wrestling in Kyrgyzstan as one of the five leading sports which is being the flagship of the Olympic sports.
