Senior International Tournament “Cup B.Turlykhanov” (GR)

During the period September 30 – on October 1 in the sport area "Halyk Arena", the 23rd Senior International Tournament “Cup B. Turlykhanov” (GR) was held in Almaty, dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the Merited coach of  USSR Bolat Turlykhanov.

“Cup B. Turlykhanov” - is one of the most respected wrestling tournaments of the country, dedicated to the memory of the Merited coach of  Kazakh SSR, the founder of Greco-Roman wrestling in  Semipalatinsk region Bolat Turlykhanov.

In 2015, the “Cup B. Turlykhanov” was included into the calendar of “United World Wrestling” and is the only competition in Kazakhstan on Greco-Roman wrestling, which had this official status. The prestigious tournament was held in Semey until this time, this year it was held in Almaty for the first time.

The history of  Senior International Tournament “Cup B. Turlykhanov” (GR) is very rich on famous names. World and European Champion Nikita Melnikov (Russia), World Champion and Asian Ryu Han-Su (Korea), Olympic Champion Kim Hyeon-woo (Korea) became the winners of this tournament. Repeatedly three-time prize-winner of the World Championship, two-time Champion of Asia and Asian Games Nurmakhan Tynaliev  ascended to this podium. Also on the tournament Champion of Asia Nursultan Tursynov, silver and two-time bronze prize-winner of the World Championship, Champion of Asia Almat Kebispayev and many others won. Among the winners were  bronze medalist of the World Championship Bekhan Mankiyev, winners of the Olympic Games Mingiyan Semenov (Russia) and Mindaugas Mizgaitis (Lithuania), World Champions among juniors Ramaz Zoidze, Zviadi Patardze and Gela Bolkvadze (Georgia).

In different years the Championship was held as the Kazakhstan Cup, as well as  “counter to counter”. In 2014, the tournament was given the international status. In the program of the tournament were only Olympic weight categories: 59 kg, 66 kg, 75 kg, 85 kg, 98 kg and 130 kg (tolerance +2 kg).

Traditionally, prize fund is – $ 48, 000,000. In each weight category, the following amounts are awarded: for the first place - $ 3,000, for the second place - $ 2,000, for third places of $ 1,000, as well as for the winner's coach $ 1,000.

The strongest athletes from 16 countries of the world, such as Russia, Korea, Georgia, Belarus, Ukraine, Armenia, Iran, Uzbekistan, Poland, Greece, Kyrgyzstan, Lithuania, Turkey, Tajikistan, Thailand and Kazakhstan took part in the Greco-Roman wrestling competitions.

Organizers of this event were the Ministry of Culture and Sport of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan Wrestling Federation, Mayor office of Almaty.

Championship served to popularize Greco-Roman wrestling, became a powerful stimulus for development of physical culture and sport and in the future will contribute to strengthening sports and cultural communications, tourism.
